The Cleveland Velodrome: A Night at the Races!

Last night (7/18/13), Carolyn and I went to the races at the Cleveland Velodrome.
If you haven’t been there yet, you really should check it out. It’s a very laid back and friendly atmosphere. See their website for racing and training schedules. There is something going on there nearly every night. They also have track bikes to rent and will teach ANYONE how to race, including kids. So if you have the slightest inkling….
Anyway, we thoroughly enjoyed the evening. We stood on the observation platform on the front straight. It’s a great vantage point. You can also stand on the back stretch, or hang out in the infield with all the racers if that’s more your speed.
Speaking of speed, some of the races exceeded speeds of 30 mph! I don’t know about you, but Carol and I only hit those speeds on major downhills!
The rules are fairly straight forward and simple to understand. If you have a question, any of the racers are more than happy to answer it for you.
The Velodrome is easy to get to. It’s just a few minutes south of downtown Cleveland on Broadway Road at Pershing (E49th). Plenty of free parking inside the fence.
